Hi. I am having some problems using IRCd.js. It started about a week ago for no apparent reason (ok I did a CVS upgade). I have tried using the very latest ircd.js and also the older version. I stillg et the same problem:

When I connect to IRC with my client, either MIRC or the Sync IRC js, it connects fine, but if I /JOIN #BBS I get the following:

Local Host: carso.synchro.net (192.168.1.4)

ERROR A fatal error occured!

* Disconnected

If I then reconnect a couple of times, it eventually starts to work ok..

when the error happens, in the synchronet log I see:

Ya true. But this wireless router is so dumb for the way you have to set it
up. It takes forever just to do something on it.

Ya true. But this wireless router is so dumb for the way you have to set it up. It takes forever just to do something on it.

You don't *HAVE* to run the DSL modem/router they gave you.. I'm running
a cisco dsl modem in front of a D-Link DFL-300 firewall... I have a D-Link wireless access point, but it's currently unplugged.

I may set up the wireless access on the firewall's DMZ port (only allowing web access with limited bandwidth), but for now, I don't need it... I set it up when I was playing around with my palm, and haven't really used it since, so I unplugged it...

a cisco dsl modem in front of a D-Link DFL-300 firewall... I have a D-Link wireless access point, but it's currently unplugged.

Question for you. Do you see any difference running a cisco or lets just sa any other DSL modem then the ones from the ISP. Is it worth getting a bette modem? The one they gave me has been working fine. But will I get a higher speed from a better brand?

This is a bad place for this topic but here it goes.

Generally no. 99.9% of the time your speed is limited by the ISP and their DSLAM, not your modem. Now, when your talking point to point DSL where your either own or rent a coper pair from point A to point B then yes better modems get you better speeds. Unless you are way out on the fringe of being too far away from the CO to get DSL then better modems won't do you much good as just plain old modems.

On to features, this is probably why Tracker is running a Cisco modem instead of the supplied ISP modem. Cheap modem == crappy features, personally I'm happy tho with a simple modem that just lets me do all the fancy stuff in my router the way I want to do it.

Correct, on the cheaper modems, setting up for a multiple IP block opens
the web management interface to the internet at large... I simply do not
like this. Also, there weren't any clear instructions on how to do the multiple IP block for the modem I was given by the ISP (rental), and ordered the Cisco before I figured it out... the cisco worked a bit better, though using the serial mgt cable takes getting used to.

I'm not a huge network guy, and appreciate the web interfaces offered by
some devices these days, but feel it's undue overhead. Will probably
upgrade my firewall before I do anything with the dsl modem though.

i may have banned you, but i dont think it worked right, cause i saw
you on there afterwards. maybe be a weird synch/bbsnet side issue.

dsl is the crappy service with contracts and lousy service.
