• DJing on Second Life

From Nightfox to All on Sat Apr 16 16:30:37 2011
    Hi all -

I was playing Second Life for quite a while, and one thing people liked to do on there was to DJ at music clubs there. I thought that would be fun to do, and I was wondering if anyone makes real-life money doing that? I also started to think it might be fun to actually DJ in real-life as well, but I've never been much of one to go to clubs and such, so I don't know how I'd fit in doing that..

I have a teacher friend who has a jazz band and they play on SL a few
times a month. One of them shared the software with me and I was going
to see about doing concerts, but discovered stateit.com instead and
have done a couple shows there.

But as for DJing, let us know if there's real money... I would assume
it's for Linden dollars, but can they be converted?

You could see about being the host of a songwriter (or covers) open
mic... Much more personable than just spinning CD's...
... Do mimes listen to blank tapes?

I believe Linden dollars can be converted to real money, but it doesn't amount to much (I think it's usually around $4.50US for around 600-800 Linden dollars).

That's not much, but if you ENJOY it... :-) There's value in doing something fun. Isn't that why you're a SYSOP? ;-)

Exactly. :) And I suppose if you do enough in Second Life, you could generate significant money in real life, similar to a store that makes its money selling thousands of low-cost items..

I did my stent DJing in a couple of different clubs on SL several years ago. Hardly made any tips, but still had fun.

Started off DJing for parties. Again, no money, but had fun, which at the
time was all that really mattered.

Yes, Lindens are freely exchangable with real world money. The exchange rate does fluctuate just like with any other currency exchange.
