• Gardening?

From David Smith@954:895/30 to All on Sun Jun 18 11:38:56 2023
Anyone having any luck with a garden this year? Mine was doing pretty good until my neigbor's horses got out and ate my pea plants! I'm hoping they will come back but maybe a little too late for them.

Anyway, we picked green beans yesterday and canned 6 quarts so I'm pleased with that! Harvested some potatoes yesterday as well. I have some peanuts in the ground that I hope will come up but the weeds are slowly winning the battle there!

When I moved to Florida in 1981, I thought that I could grow my own vegetables and
have ripe grapefruit and oranges. Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to have my wn
    garden.

The complex where I live has a Garden Club, but it takes a membership and some members are known to steal your stuff. Bad, bad.

My biggest thieves seem to be the varmets. Between the neigbor's horses who keep getting out and the deer and rabbits I can't seem to grow any peas!

Sounds like you live in the country? I live in a gated area of the city that abuts a State
Park. The park has all kinds of varmints, including wild boar. When I first moved in, I
noticed that the lawn was a little sparse, and I love a beautiful lawn. Turns out that the
boars hunted grubs shortly before we moved here, and they tore up the lawn.

We do see them on occasion if the area is dry and they decide to cross back into our
area when the water recedes a bit.

We do have the occasional deer, armadillo, an occasional panther but that is rare.

Yep I'm way out in the country here. I have about 6 acres of land a lot of it is overtaken by bamboo but I have about a 2 acre area for a garden. I've been growing sugarcane in most of it for years now with the intention of getting equipment to make syrup. I carried a bunch of it to other places to make syrup but last year the early frost got it all before I could do anything with it. This year I decideed to plow most of it up and try gardening. Unfortunately this year was mostly just learning what not to do!

Any market for the bamboo? Seems like there would be, and it tends to grow fast.

If I could find one I could be rich! The variety I have is very invasive. I know they use bamboo for a lot of things but haven't found a way to actually market it
