apartment (mine) built on the roof. My living room had weeping views of downtown Oakland, the Bay bridge, San Francisco, the Golden Gate bridge, and the marin headlands.
Next door to the building was THE PUB. That's all the sign said. It was
a house turned into a bar/coffee shop/discussion salon with individual rooms, well-worn books, a fireplace, board games, a community bulletin board (the cork kind) and two smoking porches. A couple of beers on tap, wine, coffee, cigars, pipe tobacco and all cash. Sales were written down on a steno pad. Outside food was allowed, if not simply ignored.
We had many, many BBS gettogethers there.
