FIFA World Cup 2026 starts tomorrow (June 11) - and it's already June 11 in parts of the world. Is anyone looking forward to watching the games?

Nah... I know many people like it and thats fine for them, but Toronto was absolutely ill-prepared for this, city is slammed... for a silly sport.

I think I'll get over my annoyance with FIFA by the end of the World Cup, but it'll probably take me a bit.

But hopefully the games are good, from a fan perspective, regardless.

    What's your annoyance with FIFA?

    What's your annoyance with FIFA?

There have been a variety of stories about bait-and-switch ticket sales, various ways that FIFA tries to extract all the profit for itself and give all the expenses to cities, and things that I remember less about but point to general corruption.

On the bait-and-switch ticket sales, it was along the lines of, "You'll get great, but un-specified seats in quality level 2" with the implication that the buyer was paying for something of a certain quality level. Then, when the time came to hand out the actual seat assignments, suddenly all the quality seats they were baiting with were instead still for sale, and people had purchased something they had thought was quality level 3.

I'm sure I'm not entirely correct on what exactly happened, but it's a sleazy organization doing sleazy things.

Plenty of those, especially in big-money sports, but it makes me less interested.

They tried to extract more money than usual from Electronic Arts when licensing the FIFA trademark for making videogames and as a result managed to convince Electronic Arts to give them the finger and keep making soccer games WITHOUT the FIFA brand because fsck them.

Also they made some half hearthed marketing attempts at racial politics in the sort of way that pleases nobody.

And they are bullies who threaten teams and clubs into with not letting them play in FIFA events if they take part in any big event that is not within the FIFA scope.

Also soccer is boring and the only reason it gets any endorsement from me is it brings people together - which is actually the reason why some people are trying to tear its reputation down.
