Hello Matthias,
On Sunday March 06 2022 08:50, you wrote to David Drummond:
She's very welcome here in switzerland. Let's hope our ZC :)
approves her residence outside of the country.
Does this mean that a certain Cajun could become nodelisted in
Sweden if he applied/fulfilled the technical criteria?
I don't know about sweden, but here in switzerland, we're open to interested persons. And: I'm only writing about Janis here, not other persons.
While it is true that "araes of conveneient calling" have a different meaning then in the POTS age, you realize I hope that by dropping the "regional" concept you are opening a can of worms. It sets a far reaching precedent! How about Harro Wiersma? Would it be OK to you if he moved back to R28? You are also opening the door to a group of "dissident" sysops to set up their own region or net. That would bring us back to the situation with overlapping nets and the "Fido wars" we had in the 90ties here in The Netherlands.
And it should work both ways. If a sysop is allowed to move to another net, region or zone for "reasons", than a net region or zone should also be allowed to refuse a sysop for "reasons".
Plus that if you allow sysops to move to another net, region or zone for political reasons, you bring real life politics into Fidonet. That would open up an ever bigger can of worms. How about moving the "Russion" sysops in Crimea to R50?
As we all get our echos from all over the place, the original concept
of "regions" is a bit bogus anyway. However, we still have it and the current rules have to be respected. With our ZC having the say in who
we connect, it's up to him to decide.
I do not think one man should make such a far reaching decision for all of Fidonet.
Janis helped me in the past, and i'm more than glad to return that
favour to her.
What favour would that return? As you say yourself, we can get our echos from all over the place. To get Swiss echos, she does not need a Swiss node number. The "favour" you would "return" is to give her the opportunity to make a political statement.
Think very carefully before you open up that can of worms.
Cheers, Michiel
