• Midterm Elections

Just suppose for a moment that the midterms turn out as disastrously for the Republicans as people are currently predicting. What will Trump do then?

If both the House of Representatives and the Senate go to the Democrats, there is a high probability that proceedings will be initiated to remove and prosecute both the president and many cabinet members.

In any case, the president will have very little remaining authority in that situation.

Will Trump still take up that fight, or will he throw in the towel, announcing that he is leaving the country in perfect condition and handing it over to his capable successor?

I think a departing Trump is a real possibility in that case.

The man has already lost interest in this job, let alone if both houses of Congress start working against him as well.

What if only the House of Representatives or only the Senate goes to the Democrats?

In that case, the president is at least capable of stopping the Democrats. He himself is getting very little done anymore, but the Democrats aren't getting anything through either, because the Senate or the House of Representatives keeps blocking everything or receives nothing.

In that case, I consider it more likely that Trump will remain in office. After all, neither house is doing anything right now. Virtually no legislation has passed for two years, and that remains the case because the Senate continues to torpedo every democratic attempt at legislation. That is a situation Trump can handle.

If both houses remain Republican, I fear that Trump will want to run for a third term, assuming he lives that long. The question then is whether there will even be real elections, because with such a disappointment for the Democrats, they too will wonder whether their efforts to save democracy still resonate with the population. If the Republicans were to win in November, that would essentially be the signal that democracy in the US can be abandoned. The voters would then agree with the steps taken and announced in Project 2025, and that agenda would be continued.
