  • Calls to stop tax preparation services

    In the US, there are now calls to stop the tax preparation services that the IRS provides for tax returns. Just like here, the Tax Authorities (Belastingdienst) already have a lot of your data, and you receive that pre-filled in your tax return. The Trump administration now wants to stop this. The likely consequence is that preparing tax returns will take everyone more time AND lead to more penalties. The reason Congress wants to stop this is simple: it will make the Tax Authorities busier, which gives the wealthy more opportunities to avoid taxes.

    Or they actually want to abide by the Personal Data Protection Act, and only collect and store necessary data, with the rise of data breaches, ransomware attacks, etc. I could see a very valid argument for doing this.
