Ask a New Yorker if they think marijuana should be legal, and they'll say "Yea, weed is pretty harmless, let the people smoke it."

That's logical. But here's the problem: Democrats.

They legalized marijuana (fixed a problem) then people started selling it illegally (caused a problem) and now Democrats have allocated $5 million dollars to crack down on illegal sales (fix a problem they created.)

Weed is too expensive in the recreational stores. It's like $40 an 1/8th, and they charge a whopping 15% excise tax on it. Who's gonna pay that much for weed? Not me! And not anybody else who is accustomed to paying $10 a gram.

To me it's insanely contradictory to hear news of the state "cracking down on illegal marijuana sales." What's illegal about it? It's marijuana and it's
legal. No license? Big f'n deal. Who cares? Why don't they spend $5 million dollars cracking down on illegal immigrants instead?

it? Not sure about NY but here illegal sales have always been illegal and have always been a problem with money allocated to combat it.

Marijuana in particular because it can be grown here. Other drugs were
also enforced against. Also, other elicit drugs were not taxable, where Marijuana was (and still is).

The whole purpose of legalizing it in most states was to make money on taxes (if they didn't already have one like us), license fees, and application fees, which here I think are not refundable if your appication is rejected.

That's a good point and that should be made clear to everyone, but it's being promoted as "We're no longer putting black people in jail for marijuana" instead of "We're doing this to put more money and power at Democrats' disposal."

it was the Republican-lead legislature that eventually made it legal. They like money, too.

Weed has always been a part of culture in New York. For anyone to say "We're going to crack down on illegal sales," they're omitting the fact nobody has ever been able to crack down on illegal sales before, and they're delusional

they think that they're going to start now.

In NY they have medical and recreational dispensaries, but only the recreational dispensaries charge tax (15% I think.)

as true as it sounds. You can grow it outdoors, but the plants are typically killed during the fall harvest because they won't go dormant and won't survive winter temperatures or winter aridness.

Back in the 1920's weed was legal. Other than problems with some people (like we have with drunks today), it was fine.

Then they made it illegal - but mostly to harass some ethnic groups. That didn't do anything but drive its use underground. But the Elitists made money to "enforce the law". Kinda hard to control a substance that is literally a weed that grows just about anywhere.

Then they decided to "legalize" it. This just meant that the Elitists wanted to control its sale and get their cut of the profits. So they added more laws (More laws = less freedom) which means that they needed more money to launder... er... "enforce the law".

Legalizing it is simple:
1. Get rid of all the laws surrounding it.
2. Make 1 law: Use of it is not an excuse for breaking the law. Just like drinking isn't excuse for breaking the law.

But the Elitists don't get to make more laws to hamstring us and don't have an income from it. So they don't want that.

I suspect that it was the same sort of conspiracy with alcohol. Alcohol isn't really that harmful. A few people drink too much of it, but that's about the extent of it. And because of that lame excuse, that's why we have liquor control boards, $1 million dollar liquor licenses, the ATF, AA, TTB, NIAAA, illegal alcohol sales sting operations, and countless other taxpayer funded crap devoted to alcohol.

Now we're doing it all over again, this time with weed, and lousy weed that barely even gets anyone high.
