Hello all, I'm new here and thought I would introduce myself.
My call is KC1RAY, I'm a General class operator. I have been a HAM
for about 4 years. I got my license just before the covid lock down.
I'm Sean Dennis, KS4TD/WSBW961, and the echo moderator. I've been in this >echo since 1996 when I first joined Fidonet as a node (I was a point for a >good while).
This is not a busy echo but discussions do pop up from time to time.
Thanks for the welcome Dennis. I see you are a GMRS operator too. Same here, WRFD401. Besides the HAM reflector, I run a GMRS Network using modified Allstar software. newenglandgmrs.com.
I think I know your from Facebook, I believe you run the BBSing 2.0
group over there. Small world! Aren't you also the author of Enigma?
It would be nice to get this echo popin, any idea how mant bbs's are subscribed?
I'm going to login to your BBS, so look for me there.
My first name is Sean but I answer to Dennis also. :)
Boy do I feel like an idiot, sorry about that.
I tried to get on the bbs with SyncTerm, but it only connected once
and errors as soon as I try to hit connect. Most likely on my end.
I was able to get on from the website. When I got to the point to
logout and then back in, I get an error "unable to connect". Just so
you know.
I was on your webite and I see you do many digital modes, but no FT8? Maybe you have not had a chance to update the website.
Welcome to the group Ray!
If you are thinking of upgrading definately check out their classes. You
As for SyncTerm, make sure TERM is set to "linux", not "syncterm" as it is defauly in ST.
I know there's ways to chat with that mode but it holds no interest for me.
I do use digital modes but I much prefer SSB and AM over any of the digital
modes for a good ragchew. If I'm just out to have a quick but friendly
QSO,
I'll use PSK31, RTTY, Feld Hell, or Olivia. I have a real soft spot for
SSTV
too.

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it.

I don't think so. I realy don't like being called an "Extra". "Advanced", "Master" ok, but "Extra"? and they don't give you much more privlages.
I know doesn't sound like mush of a reason, but that's me. lol

I will make that change, thanks.

It might not look like much but it is nice to have, especially during
contest weekends. Though for some reason more and more you do find people down there contesting, just not as much.
I do love me some SSTV on 20M. Nobody has even been able to explain why 14.2300 seems to be the go to spot for POTA operations though! You have
the entire band, and you have to pick the SSTV calling freq?
