    After trying everything she could think of, the mother, in a moment of exasperation, finally told her: "If you don't stop sucking your thumb, you're going to blow up like a balloon!!"

    Somehow this scared her daughter enough that she stopped sucking her thumb.

    Several weeks later, they both went to a parent-teacher conference at school one evening, where refreshments were served afterwards for both parents and children in attendance.

    As the mother was chatting with some of her friends, the daughter went to get some treats at the dessert table; and while there, she encountered a woman who was obviously pregnant.

    The daughter pointed at the woman's belly, and exclaimed, in a sing-song voice, "I know what YOU'VE BEEN DOING!!"
