I found a cheap dial up USB modem on Amazon lately and thought it would be fun to test it out.

I've long since forgotten almost all the AT commands, so there's probably a lot left to do, but for starters it would be nice if someone with a POTS modem still attached to their mailer could test if it's possible to get a decent connection to 2:2/2, 2:20/0, 2:203/0 or 2:203/208.

But rs232 -> Modem -> Pots -> ATA -> Isdn -> SomeBox -> Voip -> to
whatever is between my Voip and your Pots, is not likely to give a reliable
connection, if at all.

rs232 -> Modem -> Somebox -> Voip -> also does not work reliably,
probably because the internal pots line picks noise. Another factor is that,
the fancy protocols with fase angle modulation do to go well with Voip.

Reducing your modem speed to 1200/2400 Baud to pass through a 64kbit Voip is
an inefficient waste of bandwith and time.

But I am sure my ASR33 with a bell/103 modem may work. Now where did I put
that 20ma current loop modem?

Just kidding I never had such a modem, only one that had a rs232 input.
It weighed some 15 Kg was 19 Inch wide and probably 3 or 4 U high.

I had one. Still have it. Home made, weight 1100 gram. Originate only.

But the ASR33 is gone...

I have a Dutch PTT model T65, that may fit, otherwise you will have to
look for someting older. The T65 is from the late 60's. Now that I write
this, I realise, that the model was probably introduced in 1965.

I used to use Hydra a fair bit back in the day. Loved it, because it was a real timesaver for mail sessions. :)
