    Hey Tommi,
I was fairly certain I was configured to leave seen-by intact, and as far as I can tell at a gander should still be unless something changed with the latest sbbs updates. Doesn't appear so in the configs though. I do have direct connection to both you and Nick though, so I would be the only seen-by if a message took that path... but it should still leave the path...

Correction, for fidotest I have the following uplinks:

    fidotest FIDOTEST 1:153/7715 2:221/1

So Nick's Message would have had to come to me from Tommi or Bandmaster first I believe. From there it should have gone to Tommi. I will see if I can track that down more definitively.

SBBS (and a lot of software) strips seen bys when linked out of zone. That's the way fidonet software is designed to work.

There is an option in sbbsecho.ini that will stop that from happening. I have this in my sbbsecho.ini so traffic heading to other zones don't loose the seen bys..

    ZoneBlindThreshold = 4

With that set mail going to links in zones 1-4 won't have the seen bys stripped.

Quite correct, but there was a big discussion about that a while back. Given that I'm pretty sure there's no net number duplication these days it's pretty safe. I had set zone blind for fidonet zones. Finally found it in echocfg again though and it seems to have been toggled off again. I wouldn't think that the most recent update would do anything to sbbsecho.ini though.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

The strange thing was that there was no PATH at all. That should not happen even the SEENBY's are stripped or not.

That could be classed as an assumption too far as things change over time as networks can be added in for zones 1 & 2.

In any event some of us looking at the seenbys and paths for that matter do not
want to 'Assume' what zones are used when doing a fast glance at these fields.

Unfortunately since a couple of years there is 1 duplicate net between Zones 1 & 2, Net 310. Luckily they don't have overlapping nodenumbers, so there are no issues with seen-by's. And besides net 310 in Zone 1 can be abolished, because the only node in this net no longer exists:

    + 12 Jan 10:31:18 [6886] call to 1:310/2@fidonet
+ 12 Jan 10:31:18 [6886] getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known (-2)

I had set zone blind for fidonet zones. Finally found it in echocfg

In a declining Fidonet as it is, there really shouldn't be a need to create new nets. And if the RC feels there is a need, it is his resposibility to check he doesn't use an existing net number in another zone. There really isn't a need to choose an existing number, because there are plenty of unused numbers left.

And if he by accident, does choose an existing number in another net, I think the ZC should intervene...

    Wilfred,

And if he by accident, does choose an existing number in another net, I think the ZC should intervene...

Yes, but ... a ZC is also just only human, so unless he/she reads the nodelist as if it were the Saturday newspaper, the ZC will never know. Netmail may become totally routed wrong for concerned nodes but then again, unless that is made obvious it will not reveal the true cause.

ZCs have a kind of understanding we stay away from duplicate net-numbers. Technically with the current set of ZCs that works, in the past it wasn't always that evident.

As for the 310-overlap ... well, I think the duplication happened honestly without an agenda and we can live with it.

Probably somebody in fidonet will notice sooner or later, and can make the RC and ZC aware of it...

I think so too. But it can be corrected now, because the 1:310 net is no longer needed...
