    Hi, All!

"I love the farm, you know, and I'm glad to be here. It's just that sometimes it feels a little dull.
    ....
It's kind of hard to get excited about having the key to the root cellar".

    What is a root cellar?

    Bye, All!

    Hello Alexander,

"I love the farm, you know, and I'm glad to be here. It's just that sometimes it feels a little dull.
    ....
It's kind of hard to get excited about having the key to the root
    cellar".

    What is a root cellar?

A root cellar is a place to "keep" food stuffs.

When I was young our family had a property out in the boonies. It was old then and I doubt it exists anymore. There was no power lines going there then.

It had a root cellar that wasn't much more than a hole in the side of a small hill with a door on it. It had a few shelves that we kept our canned goods and a few things like potatoes and dried meat and fish.

It was dark and it wouldn't get to cold in cold weather or too hot in warm weather.

    Ttyl :-),
    Al

Probabaly so called because trees above would shoot their
    roots through the cellar walls...

    Hmm... I didn't see a smiley there.

I am derailing the thread with crazy self-invented
etymologies. Root cellars are named after what they
store, which is root vegetables, such as potatoes.
