Parliament has not been immune to AI slop: The EU is about to roll out its
own AI platform including tools from OpenAI, Meta, Anthropic and Mistral

The platform will provide secure access to Metas Llama, OpenAIs GPT-OSS, Mistral Small, OpenAIs ChatGPT and Anthropics Claude Sonnet -- The European Union is planning to introduce an officially sanctioned AI platform to
provide European lawmakers with a safer alternative to publicly available AI tools.

The platform, dubbed the EPGenAI Hub, will include Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Mistral models designed for legislative purposes. Multiple Members of European Parliament (MEPs) have raised concerns about the growing use of AI within the European Parliament, prompting the development of a platform that doesnt feed sensitive information into public models. Around 20% of the parliaments current staff use AI tools in their daily work - or about 2,100 people - which has contributed to some legislative materials containing
errors and AI hallucinations. "Parliament has not been immune to AI slop and misleading AI-generated content," said Brando Benifei, the Socialists and Democrats lawmaker. "MEPs must lead by example as the AI Acts transparency rules become applicable." Benifei led the European Parliaments work on producing the AI Act.

Currently, there are no regulations that force MEPs to disclose if AI tools have been used to draft or amend legislative materials, but Irish Renew lawmaker Barry Andrews said that there is obvious evidence of AI use throughout the European Parliament. That is their choice and I fully understand given our workload, he said, But for me personally, these are core democratic functions which voters elected us to perform.

There are guidelines in place for parliamentary employees however, with Politico reporting that any materials modified or produced using AI tools
must include an AI-assisted disclaimer, and employees are not allowed to feed sensitive information into AI tools.

MEPs and European Parliament staff have been given demos of the new EPGenAI Hub. The platform runs on the parliaments own infrastructure and external hosting, allowing the secure use of a range of AI models such as Metas Llama, OpenAIs GPT-OSS, Mistral Small, OpenAIs ChatGPT and Anthropics Claude Sonnet.
