  • Wish I still had?

    I wish I still had my Amiga 2000 with the 4 modems, running C-Net. I
    remember when I upgraded from the C-64 to the C-128. 80 columns seemed
    so grown up. But the Amiga multi-tasking was amazing back then.

    I can sympathize. I have been working really hard to rebuild the cast of computers I had growing up. The only major thing I am missing now is an Amstrad PC1512.

    If you want to put a C-Net Amiga BBS again, it runs very well in WinUAE and AmiBerry. Get in contact with K-Guide on Future World II and he will give you a license for the latest release. (K-Guide is the current owner, so it is NOT a cracked license file.).

    I never saw the GEM GUI first hand. What would you compare it to?

    I have Amiga C-Net running on my Linux with Amiberry. It is not open
    to the world, just something to play with. Still the REAL Amiga 2000 is missed.

    I was in elementary school when introduced to it and 4th grade when it was handed down to me. The only to which I could compare it was my uncle's Macs. To me who had been using a CoCo2 until then, it was amazing. It was a CGA computer but like the Tandy 1000 also had a special graphics mode with more colors... There were some really cool pictures that came with it in GEM Paint I found amazing. It ran in DR-DOS (came with both MS-DOS and DR-DOS), and DR was the only one that would recognize my hard card when I got it (MS-DOS 5 solved that). So with the CGA it was far better graphically than DOS SHELL or Windows 1/2 and better than 3 on CGA... not VGA... but once you got to VGA, Windows was definitely getting to be the GUI for PCs for better or for worse. There may have been later versions of GEM that kept up, butthe version I had from '86 or so was beautiful for its time.

    ... Those that have the firepower make the rules.
