• BinkD trying to call a point?

From Fermin Sanchez@2:301/123 to All on Sun May 16 16:52:48 2021

    Hello everybody!

Strange things happening over here. I'm newly rejoined to Fido after 20 years absence, so it's pretty sure the error is on my side. What would cause my system to try sending netmail directly to a point?
    ******
    + 16 May 16:32:31 [13636] call to 2:341/66.3463@fidonet

I have one "Node" definition in my binkd.cfg for my uplink and "defnode": ******
    node 2:301/1 * SuperSecretSessionPassword!
    defnode *
    ******

If I leave the "defnode" out, my system doesn't dial out at all.

Also, enabling or disabling "root-domain binkp.net" doesn't change anything from what I can see.

But my understanding of Fido is that netmails to a point should go to that point's uplink/node (in this case to 2:341/66)?

    Regards
    Fermin

Usually yes, but binkd doesn't route mails. It's the tosser that is responsible to put the netmail for the point into a pkt addressed to it's boss.

Binkd doesn't make any distinction between nodes and points. Nodes are just points with the point number 0.

If the point sysop were running a public binkd instance, you would be able to send a netmail directly to the point.

    Which tosser are you using?

    I'm using FMail.

I don't think it has anything to do with binkd, or how it's configured.

I have points on my system that have a mailer online 24/7 and also have their fqdn in the pointlist, so others could deliver crash mails directly on the points system, if they wanted to.

So Binkd just tries to deliver the pkt file where it's told to. So it has to do with how you created the message in your editor (with which flags), and what your tosser did with it...

    Bye, Wilfred.
