The Running Man (based on Stephen King novel from '86) is
getting a new film treatement coming out in November. Looks
good. The novel is being released with a movie tie-in cover.

"Ben Richards has no job, no money, and a young daughter who
urgently needs medical attention. Desperate, out of options, he
signs up for The Running Man, "the biggest show in the
country." It's an ultraviolent competition where the stakes
could not be higher. Ben must stay alive for thirty days while
an elite strike force, trained to kill, hunts for him. If he
can survive for a month, he wins a billion dollars. No
contestant has ever lasted longer than eight days. Can Ben
Richards win this ultimate game of life and death?"

The '87 movie starring Arnold Scharsenegger supposedly takes
place in 2017. Arnold uses the line "I'll be back" in that
    one.

    The book is:

Let's not forget the late Mr. "Survey Says" himself, Richard Dawson. aka Corporal Newkirk, for those old enough to get the reference. :)

Oh I do. "Hooooogaaaaan!" Did you know that HH was directly inspired by the movie, "Stalag 17"? The character, Sargent Shultz, was so popular in the movie that he was carried over to the series, with a different actor, of course. "I see noth-een!"

    My favorite lines in TRM:
    AS: "I'll be back"
    RD: "Only in reruns"

I could imagine them trying to pitch a comedy based on a prisoner of war
    camp.

I guess you could call Stalag 17 a dramedy, so the pitch probably wasn't that tough. Well worth the watch.

Ah, yes...his impersonation of Winston Churchill on one episode
    was remarkable.
