Crews are installing FIBER on the highway next to my subdivision, less then 1/8 mile from my home. They were stating it was for business and edu use, For this BBS I will be able to get service for 20.00 less than I am paying now, and have up to 100+ faster speeds, this is running off the Chattanooga Gigabit backbone.

This is going to be badass.. It will take a few more months for them to get a link to my home, but in the meantime I will be upgrading machines.

Will have a Linux machine for most of my services, keep the XP machine for my native DOS games, and everything will be great!

Nice, I'm also weeks off a massive Internet speed upgrade as the NBN is rolled out here. Scheduled availability for me is May this year, and the presence of telco workers has slowed in the last week, so hopefully they're close to throwing the switch. :)

Did yo know the Cronies who run the tenessee senate voted to keep Chattanoogas EPB out of rural communities, Chattanooga has their infracture paid for, and has MONEY to pay to run fiber out to the rural areas, instead of taking government handouts, instead, Tenessee reps vote to pay 2 companies, Comcast, and another sowhere to the tune of 45 million dollars to run infracture out to the rural areas, and offer slower, crappier service, for much more money..

Bot if some fack cat up in the house is'nt getting there pockets line..

Dirty shit.. EPB could have run this infrastructure for FREE (no cost to taxpayers) because they have a surplus of money. Yet these shit ass internet providers who are on corporate welfare must rely on subsidies because they pay their CEO's too much money..

I'd say we give these idiots the boot, WINDSTREAM FIRST!

It's the PRIVATE interprise that they are giving the coporate welfare to to get this accomplished, EPB, has had GB serverice for many year, turn a profit and woudl have run infrasturctire for free and offereed 100 times faters speed for less money. but the PRIVATE companies lobbuied and sewed againts this. not 1 dollar would have come out of taxpayer money if EPD did it. but now millions of millikons are being giving it vreaks for these others.

My internet speed right now is 225mbt down and 12mbt up.
fiber would be nice but my internet is pretty good for now, I wish the up speed was better though.

That reminds that I ran across this python script and meant to post it:

That's exactly what I mean, corporate welfare. We have a government that is bent on following the US model. I personally couldn't think of anything worse, other than a totalitarian government, of course :) I'm a believer in a balance between public and private investment, under conventional economic systems, and also believe if there is already someone who can do the job better and/or at less taxpayer expense, then that should be the option taken. But everyone seems to have their cronies these days.

I plan on upgrading to 100/40. Our short sighted government has capped available and potential speed to 100M. :( The previous government was going to roll out FTTP with a potential speed of 1G initially, even if that speed wasn't offered at first.

Just had a funny thought, years ago chatting on the BBS about being able to get speeds of 1M on a phone line someday, while using 33.6k modems. :) Felt like deja vu on a higher level. :)
