    I like Gajim for XMPP.
I like Polari for IRC and irssi when I'm in the terminal (most of the time).

    I like Gajim for XMPP.
I like Polari for IRC and irssi when I'm in the terminal (most of the
    time).

On my iPad i use Mutter, work fine.
    On a mac lime chat.

If not i was using what is pre-installed on puppy Linux.

But i'm far from a power user. Used to be on irc in the 90's, so I remember most of the command line /join /list /quit etc.

don't really use any features on the software themselves. So as far a macro
and other features i couldn't tell you much about theses software.

What is fun now is that all the craze are "bots" in messaging application. Compared to what was done in the 90's and early 00's it's old news.

It's sold to people as innovation.

I actually wrote an automated game using mIRC scripting based on Wheel of Fortune. I have it running now on the server... it's called PhrazeCraze.

What is fun now is that all the craze are "bots" in messaging application. Compared to what was done in the 90's and early 00's it's old news.

It's sold to people as innovation.

Good point but the bots of these days are more interesting? I wasn't alive in your days (most likely) but I think some bots have innovated like those, for example, that send commit messages everytime there is a new commit to a Git repository.

Is that what you guys had back then or similiar in terms of possibilities of bots and their features?

In a way more or less yes, maybe today there is api that make this work more easy. You don't have to write siri all over you can add you features to it for examples. Now you have sirikit https://developer.apple.com/sirikit/

    with Microsoft you have
    https://www.microsoft.com/cognitive-services/en-us/apis

Google and amazon. But on a lot of companies with "help chat" it's sometime algorithm much more simpler. Not much more elaborate that eliza was ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA ) and it was introduced in the mid 60's

It doesn't take that much to make a chatbot, you have little cue as a user since the only thing you have to work with it plain text.

Most of the time the interface will look for key words in the sentence a user type and will have a series of answer so that it doesn't sound repetitive.

Even a thing like siri is curated and actions and sentence are added overtime.

I call it by the acronym also, because it is named after the author, Martin bey.

It kinda bugs me to hear some one sound out an acronym, even though I've been guilty of it too.

    connected on the internet.

Why use unrealirc 3.2xx , instead of 4.xx

why are you asking me this?

Because i see a lot of server using the 3.xx instead of 4.xx
i was thinking Version 3 have Something better ?

when i was going to upgrade last, there was some exploit that targetted version 4 and they said the versions that WERE NOT affected by the issue and i said to myself "welp, i guess i'm not going to update today".

so maybe i'll update in a bit. everything is working fine and there's probably no new features in version 4 so i'm just going to keep doing what i'm doing unless there's an issue.

also i'm lazy and i had to redo my servers on proxmox and i even had to pay a guy to help me for my linux vm.... so i'm just going to relax a bit until i get the itch to update things.

someone complained the other day the rg site was doing so i put that back up. ---

you can unlink from the synchronet network if you like and have a standalone server with the sbbs irc server.

That's why I run the ircd using jsexec (separate from the other servers). I tend to restart the other servers a lot during development and don't want to cause net-splits. And, if the ircd triggers a JS-related crash, it doesn't bring anything else down with it.

you can run the synchronet ircd without linking but you should run another, better ircd instead.
