  • My new server rack :P

    So me and my dad have been cleaning up the garage and getting some racks placed into the garage and I have one of my own now and thought I'd share the progress of it so far.

    As you can see there are two machines at the top of the rack, "Plymouth" and "Mammoth". Then below that is a rack just for wiring all the CAT-5 cables and power cables to the machines and the switch (I will put a slim-fitting machine in this section once I get it). Then we have the next section which contains the other three servers (raspberry pis). The switch hangs at the top of the the shelf and the other sections are just filled with my junk (and some of my dad's - soon to be moved to a seperate rack once we move it into the garage).

    Thanks, it's cool to see how others have done theirs setup.

    cool. For my pi, i was thinking mounting inside the casing of the pc I used as a server ,there is plenty of empty slots, would fit easily in one.

    I haven't check and i'm sure i can exist, but finding a 4 pin peripheral cable micro usb to power the pi would be awesome ( or sata power to usb ) at would i guess i could make one.

    In a way it would feel funny, a pc case with both a intel and arm board inside :-D

    Yeah. I will send more pics tonight. My one PC has an electrical fault (the one named "Plymouth") as the case keeps shocking me.

    I have uploaded some new photos (now the other server "Plymouth" isn't up there anymore; see my post about "My power supply shcoked me").

    Anyway, it is really looking sick now and is almost done. All I have to do now is to get two cat 5 cables and a binder for them and then the rack will be up on my home network and ready for use :).

    I've seen some USB PCI cards that had a standard USB type B connector on the card, you could run a plain old type B to MicroUSB inside the case to the drive bay with the Pi in it.
