New hard drive slower?

Recently, I decided to put a new hard drive in my computer because the noise from the existing drive was bugging me (it wasn't abnormal noise at all, I just didn't like listening to the hard drive chug away all the time, particularly if I left the computer on overnight). So, I bought a laptop hard drive for it, since laptop hard drives are usually quieter. The laptop drive is a Western Digital Scorpio Black, 7200rpm - I figured the performance would be at least comparable to the other drive. Both drives are SATA2. I put the new drive in and moved all my stuff to it - and I don't know if this is just psychological, but it seems slower than the other drive. Does that seem likely, or might it just be me?
