Check in now.. Anyway if your into DMR. Try Iowa Talk Group 3119.
Iowa is very active everyday. We almost got every County in the state covered. We have a weekly check in on Sunday nights..
I am, but I'm on the other side of the world. You don't mention what network - DMR-MARC? Brandmeister? DMR+?

I had a buddy that lived in Perry now moved to Kansas he is N0QIX he has been trying to get me to get my tech lic but just havent had the time to study with work.
Seems just about every Synchronet sysop is a ham operator now :)

Have you tried doing some pratice tech tests online? You might already be able to pass it; many of the questions just require common-sense answers.

Not quite, but there are several of us now. If enough of us were on DMR (Brandmeister) it might be fun to set up a talkgroup and do a net.
Tim,
Seems just about every Synchronet sysop is a ham operator now :)
And, we like to ham it up...not just on the radio. <G>
Brandmeister? never heard of it, but thats because I have'nt really messed with DMR or anything like that.. I usually just do simplex and 2m/70cm 1.25m repeater.
I have'nt been that much into ham lately now that RC season is coming up,

to Hamvention next month, which is always a good time.

Well not quite, I was going to learn it and take the test but just never got past some of my trouble with it. Plus the first time I had thought about it was back when you had to know code and be able to do a certain number of words per minute that is what kept me from it then as I just could not hear it correctly to be able to get it. So this is one sysop that will most likely not ever be a ham operator.

I believe it is Brandmeister DMR-Marc û My OpenSpot is connected to Brandmeister.
Hay I see your in Australia... I had a ham friend .. VK3BVI Clem
was his name..
My first contact was VK3BVI and my Call is KD0BVI when I first got my license over 10 years ago.
What is the chances of that..Would like to hear about other callsigns
and if you have talked with somebody with similar suffix. My friend randam dialed a repeater and that was my first DX. I have kept my callsign because of that story...

I used an andriod app to practice for mine in my offtime at work, 1
week of practice tests and I was averging 95% so I went for the test
and only missed two questions..
as you say, most is common sense and stuff most people like "us" know
to be common knowledge..

There are a few different DMR networks (DMR-MARC, DMR+) and this is one
of them. I haven't read up on the differences in a while, but IIRC Brandmeister is much friendlier toward experimentation, whereas the
others are fussy about what software and equipment should be used with their network.
I have'nt been that much into ham lately now that RC season is coming up,
Haven't done much ham stuff myself until recently, mostly because I
didn't have time to put antennas up last year before the weather
turned. Turning my attention back to it now that spring is arriving.
Also looking forward to Hamvention next month, which is always a good time.

Code hasn't been needed for over a decade, just theory and regulations! :) The entry level licence in many countries is also quite easy to obtain, so never say never. :)

Well that is fine for someone who this stuff comes to them naturally.
As for me I struggle with it so it is not as easy for me.

Well, if we don't talk about ham radio on ham radio, we talk about FOOD!! I have one ham from California who checks into D-Star Nets, and he's always cooking something on the barbeque...last week, it was ribs. <drool!><slobber!>. I told him I was going to "hire him" to be the
chief chef in the Dining Car on the D-Star Trains Net Excursions. <G>

Hmm...
... Look out. Behind you.
I started my interest at 12. I'm 51 I too could not get the code.. I have been trying but loose interest quickly. I have a ticket now for over 10 years. Really enjoyed general class test.. But can't grasp extra.. I learned mine waiting at the pipeline to load everyday. It is never too late... Try HamTest Online. I was on panel that signed people that passed the test.. There was a 8 year old that passed in one of our test sessions.
