    Unfortunately, in the UK, it's against regs to operate a HAM radio on an "aircraft" and a weather balloon qualifies as an aircraft.

    I was going to just break the law and use a modified PMR radio. I figurered if it was thousands of feet over head, you'd need very little power for it t be heard for a very long distance. RL keeps getting in the way though.

    Wow. If you don't mind my saying, those are some high aspirations.
    Have you done this kind of ballooning before? Or are you talking about sending up automated balloons?

    Yeah, weather balloons, unmanned. I want to live. (;

    It is sometimes tempting to get loads of helium balloons and a lawn chair, and a shotgun so you can pop some and come down, but this is an island, and the atlantic is pretty cold.
