eBay & PayPal split back in 2015:

I was there. Good times. We stood up a whole logical network, split 120+ business apps between two entities, and pulled close to 25K desktops all over the world off of one domain and onto a new domain, in about the same time we'd take to merge a small company's files, telco, email and clients onto the corporate network.

    That's actually really cool!

That's certainly a big job! How many people were on that team? Did you have an automated tool to do domain pull/re-join or was it a manual one-by-one?

I had 35 full-time people in the US, and another 25-30 temp workers
    helping out.

Automatic, there was quite a bit of manual work - all of our
management tools, apps, etc. needed to be re-pointed to new servers
or replaced with different tools, etc.

opinion but I know that's hard to do. It bugs me that ebay and paypal
are th same. I'd feel better if they were two seperate entities but
    that's a pipe

They have been separate for 6 years now.

they are still both shitty companies
    still the same user experience.

I use PayPal and Square in my computer/IT business daily, no issues every.

When I use to do Online Gamers Escoritng, the platform took 10%, and paypal took 1% if you wanted the cash sent to debit. When my returns were only over 20 or so bucks, that was rough.

If everyone is so unhappy why are we using it? Ebay has no competetion?

Well, there's Etsy and Craigslist and some other similar services, but not many of them are frequent for tech or auto.
