• SlyEdit - losing colours

From Art@FATCATS to NightFox on Thu Sep 17 08:12:33 2009
Well... it's about time that we posted a non-test message in here... ;)

Nightfox: I have noticed that if I 'E'dit a message that's been posted (i.e., edit message text), it takes my coloured signature and turns it into non- coloured text.

Check out message entitled "C# sub-group web problems" in DevNet Sysops for an example, tho it's not very helpful.

Is there a way around this issue?

    Many thanks.

I'd have to say this is normal. SlyEdit currently doesn't handle color codes, and it will strip color codes from quoted messages, etc.

Maybe the way around that would be to remove your non-color signature and re-add it. Sorry for the inconvenience. :(

Support for color codes is something I'd like to add to SlyEdit at some point in the future.

Hi Nightfox, thanks for this information.

I also noticed the classical problem of lines not wrapping nicely if you delete say, half a line from line 1, line 2 doesn't wrap up to it, for example. Otherwise, it's a fine editor and well done thus far, I look forward to any future updates...

One thing though, that post-editing info screen is a little bit of an annoyance... any chance you could remove it, give an option to suppress, or maybe even randomise it so it only shows 1 out 5 times, or something? I'm saying this because your authorship is clearly stated at the bottom of the editor anyhow. Just my two cents.

    Kind regards,
    Art

Can you describe in more detail what leads up to this? For example, if you press enter during editing, SlyEdit will tag that line so that it won't wrap up the next line onto it - the logic being that if you pressed enter, the user probably wanted the line to end where you pressed enter. Otherwise, SlyEdit's line wrapping algorithm could improperly wrap up lines at other times.

One thing though, that post-editing info screen is a little bit of an annoyance... any chance you could remove it, give an option to suppress, maybe even randomise it so it only shows 1 out 5 times, or something? I'm

hmm.. Perhaps in a future release, I can include a configuration file where you can disable that.

I've released a new version of SlyEdit, 1.07, and have included an option to disable the post-edit info screen via a configuration file, SlyEdit.cfg. You can download the new version here: ftp://digdist.bbsindex.com/bbs/SYNC_JS/SlyEd107.zip
