How can you be signed up if you don't have your mailer working? Fidonet usually only takes applications via Netmail.

Linux mailer, I have no idea, I would Google around a bit. I'd imagine BinkP is the way to go, but there should be other Fido mailers out there, I'd recommend FLO style mailers (BinkP), but up to you. I'm sure someone else will chime in, in a moment.

I've applied for FidoNet access via internet email before and have gotten help getting it set up after I applied.

I'm pretty sure that they're taking applications via other means now that they're not totally swamped with applications and can handle the time commitment that comes with it.

Internet Rex comes to mind, but you would need an older kernel for that.
Binkp (the actual software itself) would work, too.

Z1C has a link on her site with a Fido app, and she emails the information (including the applicant's email address) to the local regional coordinator. I've added the last few nodes that way - and they've had their BBSes up and ready as soon as I emailed them back to welcome them to Fidonet.

There's a whole document on BinkD at http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:binkd. I read somewhere that the last IRex Beta works with newer kernels, but haven't tested it myself. I used IRex for Windows and liked it. I'm not sure I'd like working with BinkD because it seems over-complicated to setup.

On another note, I need to set all that up sometime and get my Fido feed back. I'm still debating on if it's worth the hassle of setting it all up these
    days.
