Most of these doors are inconpatible with windows os 8 64 bit. Or is there some kind of work around for this? Thanks for any feedback.

Any Windows NT based OS running in 64-bit does NOT run 16-bit applications. All DOS Doors are... 16-bit (or 32-bit running over 16-bit DPMI)(That may be wrong)

    Couple solutions:
Install Win8 x86 (32-bit), but I don't know if that even exists, and if this is brand new system there may be an issue finding 32-bit drivers for some of your hardware.

Install WinXP/Win7 32-bit, didn't mention Vista or 2k, but any of those OSs would work, but of course, drivers and you have to have a License key.

Install VirtualBox (Free), or Virtual PC (Maybe free, for example, Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate has free "XP Mode" which is basically Windows XP 32-bit running Virtually and nicely integrated into Windows 7).

If you have a Valid license for WindowsXP/Vista/7, I would get VirtualBox, install the 32-bit version of whatever OS you have the license for and run your BBS in that. Can sometimes be a little tricky, for example, VB on my system doesn't like to access my Ext USRobotics modem via Serial port. Don't know why, not really using it at the moment, but everything else works nicely.

I guess another option would be Linux. I'm running Debian virtually, it's fast, doesn't take much cpu away from other stuff, but i'm not running Sbbs on it. Might check with other ops around here for advice if you decide to run Linux as to which distro to go with.

Final option I just thought of, Don't run DOS Doors, stick to javascript or 32-bit Doors (a lot of maintained DOS Doors have 32-bit windows versions now, those should all work under Win8/64).

    Good luck
