• CenturyLink and/or other DNS failures over the past week or more

Just curious, but has anyone else (at least on CenturyLink) been having massive issues over the past week or more accessing the standard DNS servers? I know that right before I started having these massive issues resolving 9 out of 10 site names I saw word going 'round about the 300Gbps+ sustained attack that was happening across a variety of sites. So I don't know if it's related or not, but I certainly know that my centurylink connection has been frigging worthless for quite some time now. Nine out of ten sites won't load unless I sit and spend 5-30 minutes pounding reload on them. I tried calling them to find out if they've got a projected date to have this issue fixed the other day and ended up being a victim of their outstanding customer service again. Took me about fifteen minutes to get through to a live human, and then when I finally got there it took another ten minutes for the idiot on the other end to understand what I was saying about how their DNS servers were hosed. They took a callback number in case we got disconnected and put me on hold. Of course I got hung up on and they never called back.
The only reason I've stayed with CenturyLink for this long (despite ridiculous rates, too) is because they don't fork over every record they have on one of their customers just because the gov't asks for it-- they actually make them come up with a warrant, unlike most services these days. If they don't knock at least a quarter off of my bill for this next cycle and offer to drop my overpriced rates for this shit considerably, though, I'm pretty sure I'd rather be stringing a waxed string between windows to the next person that can spare 110bps of their connection for me. :|

I doubt the historic DDOS had much to do with the DNS problem... even if they were using the actual domain names instead of IP addresses, the local machines the DDOS is being launched from would cache their own lookups.

However, aside from that I've noticed my own ISP's DNS servers occasionally lag or flake out. Even if you don't want to always use it, Google's DNS comes in handy for times such as these: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Also, I've read there's a whole slew of free DNS resolvers out there if you don't want to trust Google with your lookups.
