    Hello All,

I don't know if this is going to work or not, but here's a test from a Win98
    VM from Outlook Express. :D

    Hi Ac,

Got it here! Having said that, I'm curious as to how you sent this message.
I still have a P1 200mmx lying around that deserves some TLC :)

Hope my message comes through as well, as my system was slowly grinding to a halt apparently.

    Cheers

I'm using Outlook Express and connecting to my NNTP server that I run on my server machine. Seems to work quite well so far.

Looks like it came through just fine, including your other two.

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Nice, is it an NNTP server running within Synchronet, or an intermediate one?

Thanks for confirming, RL got in the way lately and I have less adequate scripting in place it seems ;)

    Cheers

    Sebastian

I've forked and have been updating and bugfixing Jamnntpd (https://github.com/axxisd/jamnntpd) and Smapinntpd (https://github.com/axxisd/smapinntpd) with a couple others who forked their own also, over maybe the past year or more.

My main focus was Smapinntpd, but since the code is similar (besides one using jamlib and the other using smapi, I've just updated them both at the same time.

I also run Synchronet's NNTP server for comparison. So to answer your question, I'm running 3 NNTP servers for testing purposes, but usually use my Smapinntpd server for posting.

It happens. Keep tinkering, and eventually it'll stay up until you remember it's running again. :)

    Nick

Thanks, I forked those too to check them out. Now onto finding time to do so :)

Thanks again, funny how I never thought of using NNTP for my retrocomputing stuff. I tend to dial in with Telix and my Hayes modded (https://tempestfpga.com) wifi modem, lol. Now I want to check out Win95 with Outlook Express :D (but yeah, time again)

Ah yes, time. The thing most of us are missing. :)

It's not that bad (I recently did it), but the latest Thunderbird is much better. Then you go to open your web browser in Win95 and can't reach any modern website any more. Not to worry, though.. you can't reach them in Win98SE, Win2kPro, or WinXP either, without some kind of hackery in the later versions or using something like . Even with Win7 I had to get a special version of Firefox in order to do anything. :)

I don't recommend browsing the web with any of those old Windows OSes, but mine were each secure to their own completely empty VM.

    Nick

Good catch! That wasn't an error in the old software. That was an NNTP server error that I hadn't noticed in probably quite some time! :)

Maybe it'll work after the server resets, and not when I'm still connected to it. :)
